Hiding God's Word in Your Children's Heart

This is part of an article from the CurrClick newsletter I received today.  This is what I love most about being able to homeschool.  We have so much to learn together!

Most home school moms can quote the following portion in the Book of Deuteronomy. Perhaps that's the very portion that sealed their decision to home school:

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up.” (Deut. 6:6,7)

We see three directives from these verses.

Firstly, as parents we need to hide the Word in our own heart.
Secondly, we are to teach the Word diligently to our children.
Thirdly, we are to do so throughout the day.

I take these directives seriously. There are days when I despair because my schedule is thrown out of the window, or all my wonderful plans remain just wonderful plans. But because Bible memorization continues to be our priority, whether or not the lesson plans get accomplished for that day or week really matters not. Life happens. And when life happens, it's the Word of God that gets us through. One day when my children are grown, they will not remember everything they have learned from different subjects. But godly principles gleaned from the Word of God and Bible passages they have diligently inscribed in their hearts from young will not depart.
