Our First Week of Homeschool

It's been a good week!  We made it through!

I had originally planned on starting Tuesday.  But Sunday I just thought how much more fun it would to start while Chad was home for the holiday!

Because we are starting a geography unit study, I thought it would be fun to send the boys on a treasure hunt to find their new school supplies.  So Chad and I made a map of the yard with 6 stops.  They had to gather numbers 1-6 that would then lead them to the treasure.  They had a ball!  We introduced geography and worked on all the other subjects.  It went rather well, except the fact that Daddy was a huge distraction!  Ha!  It's probably a good thing he's a work most of the time.  :)  The day was a little different that would normally happen anyway.

Tuesday we ended up going to the library before starting school.  We picked up all kinds of geography books and bug books.  My patience was tried yesterday with Andrew not wanting to do some of his LA stuff.  But we made it through after I told him we could sit there as long as he wanted to.  All three boys were doing something different at one point and I just ate up the moment.  But in one second it all broke out over a few silly things!  We were all getting frustrated, but finished after I put Samuel down for a nap.  Andrew had a big sigh of relief that he was done.  I grabbed his hand and had a heart to heart with him about how thankful I was to be able to school him at home.

Wednesday we had our first day of co-op.  We are at a new location now.  It is going to be great.  So we worked out a few bugs on our first day.  Everything went real well.  We did school in the afternoon.

Thursday we completed half of our work in the morning.  Then we headed out our front door to watch the neighbors across the street have their driveway paved.  The guy in charge was super friendly and so excited to hear that they were homeschooled.  He told the boys about all the equipment...what it did and how it all worked.  We sat out there watching the entire process for 3 hours.  The guys put on a show for us.  The favorite act was the "pop a wheelies" done by the Bobcat.  Andrew even drove the roller around our circle.  Fun stuff!  We came back in and finished school right as Daddy came in.

Today we wanted to get school done this morning so we could swimming.  It was a great day for it!  So we finished up.  Andrew got a 100% on his first spelling test. :)  We did a Friday school's out dance!

Our verse this week was quite appropriate for the first week of school...appropriate for both the teacher and the student!

Colossians 3:23 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

Enjoy some pics!
